Academic Honesty
Students are expected to adhere to the IIT Code of Academic Honesty. Also see the student Code of Conduct.
Group Work
You are allowed and encouraged to help each other on all the assignments. Indeed, you must work in a group for the final project, presentation, and report. However, you should prepare your own unique biological target presentation and biological target report.
Generative AI (GenAI) Policy
GenAI tools (e.g., chat assistants, code assistants, structure-prediction models) may be used in this course only in ways that support learning and do not replace the work an assignment is designed to assess. Unless an assignment explicitly allows more, treat GenAI like outside assistance: limited use is permitted, and non-trivial use must be acknowledged. You are responsible for everything you submit (accuracy, reasoning, code correctness, and citations), including any AI-assisted content; AI outputs can be incorrect or misleading, so you must verify claims and references with reliable sources.
Allowed (unless an assignment says otherwise):
- Brainstorming and planning (ideas, outlines, troubleshooting steps)
- Debugging code or explaining error messages
- Proofreading/clarity edits to text you wrote
Not allowed (unless explicitly permitted):
- Using GenAI to substantially complete an assignment (e.g., generating full solutions or report sections) without further editing and verification. You should retain AI-generated text for comparison to your final version.
- Submitting AI-generated text/code you do not understand and cannot defend
- Fabricating data, results, or citations (all references must be verified)
Disclosure: For any non-trivial GenAI use on graded work, include a brief note: tool(s) used + what you used it for + how you verified/edited the output and the end of the document. For example, “Used ChatGPT to brainstorm an outline and debug a Python error; verified all scientific claims by checking primary literature and re-running code.”
Quizzes
Quizzes must be completed individually. Seating may be assigned during quizzes. Cheating on a quiz will lead to failing the quiz.
Disabilities
Reasonable accommodations will be made for students with documented disabilities. See the Center for Disability Resources Rights and Responsibilities. To receive accommodations, students must obtain a letter of accommodation from the Center for Disability Resources. The Center for Disability Resources (CDR) is located in 3424 S. State St., room 1C3-2 (on the first floor), telephone (312) 567-5744 or disabilities@illinoistech.edu.
Sexual Harassment
Illinois Tech prohibits sexual harassment by any member of the community. This includes harassment among students, staff, or faculty. Sexual harassment by a faculty member or teaching assistant of a student over whom they have authority can be particularly serious. Such conduct may easily create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment. Accordingly, Illinois Tech strives to provide for its students, faculty, and staff an educational and employment environment free of sexual harassment.
lllinois Tech encourages anyone experiencing sexual harassment to speak with the Office of Title IX Compliance for information on support options and the resolution process. You can report sexual harassment electronically at iit.edu/incidentreport or contact either Title IX Coordinator Virginia Foster at foster@illinoistech.edu, or Title IX Specialist Ryley Andrews at randrews2@illinoistech.edu.
To speak with someone confidentially, contact Illinois Tech’s Confidential Adviser at 773.275.8340 or a licensed practitioner in Illinois Tech’s Student Health and Wellness Center by emailing student.health@illinoistech.edu or calling 312.567.7550.
